Hyde Park Progress writes that the shareholders’ buyout vote could aptly be termed a landslide. The vote margin (approximately 60 percent in favor versus 38 percent opposed) mirrors LBJ’s 1964 presidential election.
The real standouts from the HP Progress post, though, are the reader comments – almost three dozen and counting, reflecting the storied history of the grocery store that’s been a fixture on the South Side since 1932. Check ’em out to see what I mean.

Have fun with no grocery store hyde park…
HP does have smaller grocery stores–the excellent Hyde Park Produce, the atrocious Village Foods, and Jewel-Osco within driving distance to the South, and Whole Foods within driving distance to the North. Indeed, that’s where everyone has been going these last few years, even with the Co-op in the heart of HP. The Co-op space will be filled soon enough by Dominick’s or Jewel or something else; and in the meantime, we’re genuinely no worse off than we were before.
Dream on. Everybody doesn’t WANT to drive to do grocery shopping nor can they. And I doubt very seriously that the space will be filled anytime soon. None of these are true full line stores.
RIP Co-Op. I’ll miss the love affair with wonderful foods.
