“North Park” is a fitting name for this trapezoid-shaped community area on the Northwest Side: A significant portion of the neighborhood is made up of four city parks (Gompers, Hollywood, Legion, and Peterson), part of the La Bagh Woods Preserve, and four cemeteries, with most of its residences tucked into its eastern half, bounded by the river, Pulaski Road, and Foster and Devon avenues.
Within North Park are four smaller neighborhoods: Brynford Park, Hollywood Park, Pulaski Park, and Sauganash Woods. The community area is home to a variety of ethnicities and cultures: It’s Orthodox Jewish history can still be seen in its myriad Hebrew schools, while many of its businesses are owned and run by Korean-Americans and Latinos. Two universities — North Park University and Northeastern Illinois University — call North Park home.
North Park isn’t flush with new construction, but there are a few options out there. One new single-family home surfaces in an MLS search: a 3,200 square-foot six-bedroom / five-bath at 5523 N Sawyer Ave, priced in the $790s. A couple of new condo conversions at 5431 and 5721 N Kimball Ave have three-bedroom homes in the $260s and two-bedrooms in the $200s, respectively.
