It’s been quite a few years since Sheridan Road in Lakeview has seen any new apartment construction.
We stopped by 2950 North Sheridan last week, where site prep is underway for the new tower announced in this Wirtz Realty news release:
Already with a rich history of investment in Lakeview, Wirtz Realty Corporation announced today plans to build an upscale residential high rise at 2950 N. Sheridan Road. The 19-story development will be the ninth Lakeview property in its Landmark portfolio.
“We have been a proud partner in Lakeview for decades and look forward to working with our neighbors on this exciting new construction project,” said Donald Vitek, Senior Vice President of Wirtz Realty Corporation. “With Wirtz Realty holding roles as both neighbor and developer, we are mindful of the impact of this project on our neighbors. Lakeview is one of the most desirable, celebrated neighborhoods in the city and we have designed a project that embraces the aesthetic and significance of this community.”
Construction is expected to begin September 9th with completion anticipated in approximately 22 months. Booth Hansen was chosen to design the project based upon their design expertise and understanding of the context of the neighborhood. The general contractor is Chicago-based Power Construction, a leader in high-rise construction with experience in Lakeview.
The new building will address both the Sheridan and Oakdale elevations with active streetscapes. Parking will be shielded from view in an adjacent low-rise structure camouflaged with an appealing brick facade. Residences will include floor-to-ceiling windows with expansive city and lake views, 9′ 4″ floor-to-ceiling heights, spacious open floor plans and designer finishes.
Building amenities will include 24 hour door staff, private indoor heated parking, cafe, fitness center, pet park, landscaped outdoor terrace, and more. The building will feature 82 units including one, two and three bedroom apartments with rents ranging from $2,900 to $6,000 per month.
“We are grateful for the support of Alderman Tunney and his constituency – their partnership is key,” said Vitek. “With their input came commitments for traffic intersection improvements at Sheridan and Oakdale to further ensure the compatibility of the project within the neighborhood.”
“We take great pride in anything we put our “W” on, from sports teams to banks to real estate, and we have taken care to ensure that this new residential development contributes positively to the Lakeview neighborhood,” said Rocky Wirtz, Chairman of Wirtz Corporation. “We are proud of our Lakeview heritage and we are excited for what is to come at 2950.”
