The high-rise apartment building at 600 W Diversey, on the border between Lincoln Park and Lake View, was completed in 1982.

The building occupies a prime corner at the point where Broadway begins and Clark St angles to the northwest. Multiple CTA bus routes pass through the intersection, which is a few short blocks west of Lincoln Park (the park).

The building, Lincoln Park Plaza, has been undergoing a recent makeover that includes a new lobby, an updated fitness center and laundry room, and additional common-area improvements.

As part of the building’s update, under-utilized space on the second floor is being converted to additional apartments.

The new apartments were nearly ready for occupancy when I visited on Tuesday. The kitchens have ample cabinet and counter space, built-in microwaves, dishwashers, and several boast a large island.

The apartments have light laminate wood floors in living areas, carpeted bedrooms and spacious baths with large vanities and ceiling-height tile in the tub / shower. The units have split-bedroom floor plans that work well for roommates, good closet space and an in-unit combination washer / dryer. At the time of my visit the rent for a 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit was $2,495 a month, heat, gas, DirecTV and Internet service included.

The best feature of the new apartments is the large private terraces that open directly from the units and overlook the busy streetscape along Diversey Pkwy.

Ground-level retail space in the building includes Walgreen’s, Panera, Chipotle, a bank, a beauty supply outlet and an AT&T Store. Potbelly is across the street and Trader Joe’s is less than a block west. Bed Bath and Beyond and a Walmart neighborhood market are around the corner on Broadway. There are dozens of additional restaurants and bars lining Clark, Broadway and Diversey in the immediate area.
