New construction in Chicago, then and now

What a difference five years makes! Five years ago today we were –

  • Reporting the imminent start of construction at Aqua
  • Touting 1349 S Wabash as our deal of the day
  • Focusing our radar on some new Lincoln Park developments
  • Embedding video of the developer’s fantasies for Roosevelt Collection
  • Illustrating the start of construction at ParkView condominiums
  • Relaying what may be the NIMBY quote of the decade
  • Talking about incentives at McKinley Park Lofts
  • Hearing about 1400 N Lake Shore Drive’s art deco heritage
  • Noting that the Near West Side was packed with new construction
  • And finally, we quoted executives of two major brokerage firms who saw a strengthening spring sales market and no deep price cuts on the horizon.

The market was clearly troubled at the time, but the energy level in new construction in Chicago was still phenomenal.
