Northfield frequently offers up some of the best housing values in Chicago’s Cook County North Shore communities.

Several years ago Coldwell Banker’s Linda Martin, Bonnie Larson and I set out to take a video look at every condominium and townhome project in Northfield as part of a social networking site we were experimenting with called Northfield Buzz. Bonnie and Linda both have an in-depth knowledge of the suburb that they call “Winnetka’s country cousin.”

Almost three-and-a-half years ago to the day, we stopped for a detailed look at the Willow Hill Court condos and the adjacent Clarkson Park. Our video, I think, is a good slice-of-life introduction to the environment at Willow Hill Court. You can see a lot more of Northfield in the more than 80 videos at the Northfield Buzz YouTube channel we created.

A one-bedroom single-level townhome-style unit with a private patio and 2 parking spaces just became available at Willow Hill Court, priced at $850.

  • Joe you broke your own rule. Northfield is not lake Michigan and therefore should not be referred to as part of the North Shore.

  • Dan,

Bent the rule – badly, depending on your view on it.

I’ve typically made an exception for Northfield because it shares some municipal services (e.g. library) with Winnetka, because it shares a ZIP Code with Winnetka, because its schools all feed into New Trier, and because of its demographics.

A strict application of my rule would, as you correctly note, exclude Northfield.

A strict application of my rule would also exclude the unincorporated areas in Winnetka and Lake Bluff that lack lakefront access, and would rule out Highwood which also has no lakefront.
