Newly priced townhomes, two-flat resales and more at Galewood Crossings

Enclave at Galewood Crossings, Chicago

Flash back to May 2006, when Northbrook-based Red Seal Homes opened an on-site sales center at The Enclave at Galewood Crossings, a residential and retail community planned for the 50-acre Galewood Yards site at 1900 N Central Ave, in Austin’s Galewood neighborhood.

Plans for The Enclave called for 57 single-family homes priced from the $420s to $540s, 76 townhomes from the $290s to $360s, and 54 condos from the $230s to $320s, as well as a 14-screen Kerasotes movie theater, a laborers’ union training center, a two-acre park, a “tot lot,” and a dog park.

Turns out developer Cal Boender, who partnered with Red Seal on the Galewood project, bribed Alderman Ike Carothers to push the project through, and things were all fine and dandy until the US Attorney’s Office came a-callin’. (But what fun they had while it lasted!)

Anyway, back in the world of 2010, there are all sorts of homes still for sale at the Enclave, and wouldn’t you know, some of them are listed below those old 2006 pre-construction prices.

For example, Red Seal has just listed three 2,240 square-foot, three-bedroom / three-bath townhomes on Hanson Avenue — 5310 #124, 5348 #111, and 5356 #108 — and one 2,340 square-foot three-bedroom at 5219 W Galewood Ave for $230,000 apiece. Those homes join a handful of townhomes and duplex condos that Red Seal has kept listed anywhere from 74 to 278 days.

Among resales are a short sale townhome at 5415 W Galewood Ave listed in the $270s, a two-flat at 1858 N Laramie Ave listed in the $540s, and a two-flat at 5236 W Galewood Ave listed in the $470s
