NIMBY: Lakeview edition

Mary Schmick reports in today’s Tribune that the folks up near the Paulina Brown line stop are plenty miffed about the new retailer soon to be in the hood. The Pleasure Chest will move from Broadway near Belmont, where it’s been for thirty years, to this stretch of Lincoln that doesn’t really get much pedestrian traffic. Owners say they’re relocating because of more favorable lease terms.

Maybe the locals would have been happier had Tulip, the so-called feminist sex shop, opened an outlet there. Its Halsted St storefront looks tasteful [there’s another up in Andersonville]

and the name of the store doesn’t really indicate what they sell there.

But, no, as the Tribune reported a while ago, erotic toy shops don’t win friends and influence people, regardless of who their target audience is.
