In 2011 SOM‘s Philip Enquist led Waterline, a design studio focused on the South Branch of the Chicago River. Twelve architecture, urban design, urban planning and landscape architecture students participated in the Harvard Graduate School of Design program and explored the potential of this little-noticed stretch of the river.
In the above video, one of the students articulates my view of the South Branch:
One of my perceptions is that the river is awesome, but nobody seems to really know about it, and nobody seems to really think or know that there’s a river there.
The first video exposes you to a part of the river you may never have visited. The second video is a brief overview of each of the student visions of the river’s potential.
