North side gargoyles – are they doing their job?

Click for larger image

We present the first in an occasional series of north side gargoyles.

Gargoyles are more than merely decorative. They have a practical purpose: warding off evil spirits.

On the south side, where gargoyles are plentiful, they clearly are not keeping up with the evil spirits. The one exception may be the University of Chicago campus where, we’ve heard, they successfully keep at bay the evil spirits of political incorrectness.

Does anyone know the location of these gargoyles, and know whether they’re keeping pace with the evil spirits in their locale? Hint: these guys face east, presumably the direction from which an earlier generation of Chicagoans anticipated the advent of evil spirits. Chicagoans today know that evil is non-directional. Or is it omni-directional?

Send us an e-mail with a photo of your favorite gargoyles.
