Five years ago today we were writing about a single-family home at 2070 N Oakley Ave in Bucktown and a 21-unit condo development slated for 2520 S Oakley Ave in Heart of Italy.
The 5-bedroom, 4 ½ bath Bucktown home was listed for sale at $1,525,000, and one-bedroom condos in the Heart of Italy project started in the mid-$200s.
As it turned out, both properties had lengthy market times and eventually sold well below their 5-year ago listing prices. The Bucktown home sold for $950,000 in October of 2008 after a succession of price drops. After “blow out pricing” Unit 303 at 2520 S Oakley (pictured above) finally sold for $149,000 in May of last year.
If you’re unfamiliar with Heart of Italy, our neighborhood page suggests it is “perhaps a neighborhood, perhaps just a co-branding effort on the part of the half dozen Italian restaurants that constitute much of what’s left of the Italian community in the area.”
