The Ohio House Motel, at 600 N LaSalle St, is an island of ’50s kitsch in swanky River North. It has pretty good rates too – between $100 and $130 per night when we last checked. Manager Tina Angarone was nice enough to chat with us about the motel and changes in the neighborhood.
I give it 2-3 more years before that thing is gobbled up for a nice sum of cash from a developer making way for 40-50 stories of condos whereupon the the Ohio House Motel can move to a rural suburb in Ohio along the freeway.
Ohio House serves a very important purpose in that it provides an affordable place for visitors to stay. Not everybody can afford $200+ a night for a room. I also like the kitch factor it adds to the neighborhood.
