Residents of the West Loop are sick of commuters using the neighborhood as a free parking lot, according to a Medill News Service article also published in the Chicago Journal.
At a May 10 meeting, West Loop community leaders proposed a plan that “divides the neighborhood into four zones, with metered parking along the east-west commercial corridors and permit parking on most north-south side streets,” according to the story.
Metered parking would not be enforced between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. on weekdays or on weekends.
I may be crazy but why not just permit zone this instead of meter? Does anyone know the difference in profit margin for the City’s Dept. of Revenue with respect to meters vs permits?
I live in the west loop in a 265 Unit loft building. I know that myself and my neighbors aren’t asking for meters but rather speaking out against.
I think the City is pushing meters for the added revenue without truly polling it’s residents for their opinions. The answer should be permit zones, not meters…
