Places of convenience close on weekends in downtown Chicago

I came upon a negative to living in the West Loop in an unfortunate way. One Sunday morning I woke up after a particularly late Saturday night, which I couldn’t remember much of. I woke up with a hangover and a headache that encompassed my entire head. I headed to CVS Pharmacy to get some much needed Tylenol — and they were closed.

In fact, all pharmacies and drug stores in the West Loop are closed on Sundays and have earlier closing times on Saturdays. The only CVS open on Sundays is at 121 W Kinzie St, which closes at 4 p.m. Merchandise Mart is the closest L station to that area, and who wants to ride the el with a splitting headache?

After that, I stocked up on Tylenol to ensure that disaster would never happen again. But several restaurants, bar and grills, and sandwich shops are closed on Sundays too, and sometimes both Saturdays and Sundays. Nothing’s really closed in Greektown, but I could only take so much saganaki after a while. Potbelly’s is one of my current obsessions, and the closest one to me isn’t even open on Saturdays. The two closest Potbelly’s open on Sundays are at Jackson and Wabash, open until 5 p.m., or in Printer’s Row on South Dearborn, which is open every day until 9 p.m.
