The Sutherland, 4659 S Drexel Blvd, has a rich history. The building was built in 1917 as a military hospital, was converted to a hotel, became a destination for jazz lovers, was eventually converted to affordable housing, and is now entering a new phase.
The Sutherland is currently being transformed into 122 luxury apartments. Its importance to the jazz era was a design inspiration for the renovation, and many of the lobby’s original elements have been repaired and restored.
MAC Property Management is hosting a pre-grand opening event to showcase the changes at The Sutherland on Saturday, April 13, from noon to 4.
The Sutherland will have a 24-hour fitness center, onsite laundry, 24-hour lobby concierge, Wi-Fi lounge, onsite parking, additional storage and bike parking, a controlled access system, and 24-7 maintenance staff.
Studio apartments rent from $795 a month, 1-bedrooms from $965 and 2-bedrooms from $1,200.
NOTE: MAC Property Management, which owns and manages 1,000s of apartments in the Hyde Park / Kenwood neighborhood, is one of our sponsors.
