Preservation Chicago to protest the demolition of the Lake Shore Athletic Club

Lake Shore Athletic Club

Preservation Chicago plans to rally against the proposed demolition of the Lake Shore Athletic Club on Sunday, June 3 at 1 p.m. The group is seeking landmark status for the 1924 building, designed by Jarvis Hunt.

Protesters in sports gear, led by a torch-carrying runner, will gather outside the club at 850 N. Lake Shore Drive. The symbolism, in case it slipped past you, is meant to point out the city’s indifference to an architectural treasure – an athletic one to boot – so soon after touting Chicago’s architecture in front of the International Olympic Committee.
