Preservationists struggle to save Evanston Civic Center

Preservationists and activists in Evanston are gathering signatures to try to save the Civic Center, at 2100 Ridge, from being sold to a developer, according to a story in today’s Chicago Tribune. The Evanston City Council says it would be cheaper to sell the century-old structure and build something new than to renovate. Opponents disagree and would rather have the building, a former Catholic girls school, rehabbed and maintained than sold to a developer.
