The single-family home at 1758 W Thorndale Ave in Edgewater went on the market for the first time in October 2009. Just nine months later, in July 2010, it sold at auction for $98,000. This month, Steven Nguyen of Vina Realty relisted the home at just under $400,000; after just 13 days, it’s dropped almost 13 percent, to $349,000.
It’s not a short sale or foreclosure, but like a lot of distressed homes on the market, it’s being sold “as is.” In this case, “as is” is a two-story home with three bedrooms, three baths, and a fourth bedroom best suited as an office; a newly finished basement; new siding, windows, hardwood floors, and ceramic tile; an upgraded kitchen with granite countertops, new cabinets, and new stainless-steel appliances; a bath with a whirlpool tub; new electrical and HVAC systems; and new washer and dryer.
1758 W Thorndale Ave gets a “Very Walkable” score of 86 and a “Good Transit” score of 62 at WalkScore.com. The closest Red Line station is three-quarters of a mile away, but the home is a very short walk away from stops for the 84-Peterson, 22-Clark, and 50-Damen bus routes.
