I’ve made a habit of asking, ‘So, where do you live?’ and have learned the names of neighborhoods and small enclaves where the space you get is big and the rent is still cheap.”
And, she cautions, beware of Starbucks:
“I’ve found that once … Starbucks moves in, you know your investment has topped out. Most of the interesting characters, the very people who held the community together during their earlier hard times, have all moved out.”
