“I think Chicagoans should be very, very proud, and they don’t realize the treasure they have here. New York is congested; it’s unsafe. The quality of life is way better here.”
– Garrett Kelleher, developer of The Chicago Spire, when asked if he’ll be able to draw the kind of wealthy international buyers who frequently flock to New York. We caught up with Kelleher at a media preview of the Spire’s sales center.

Kelleher is wrong on the crime issue. NYC has much less per capita crime than Chicago. On the other quality of life issues I think he is right.
As for crime I don’t think it is much of a factor in Streeterville or Manhattan generally. Now as to the rest of the neighborhoods………….
And the bodega shopping is much better in NYC! Gin & Juice for all my merry men!
Then explain why tons of well of Chicagoans have weekend places in NYC. Not sure there are any New Yorkers with a bolthole in Chicago. Please, Chicago is a great city, but it ain’t the big apple.
Hmmmm… I don’t know many people who flock to Chicago for its safety… But it is a great town, and the quality of life for the dollar is much better here than in NYC. But I do love New York–I just can’t afford to live how I’d want to live there.
I am sure there are Chicagoans that have weekend places in NYC. Tons? Perhaps if you weighed them.
I know some people who go to NYC often but they generally stay in these things called Hotels.
Chicago ain’t the Big Apple. Thank GAwd for dat!
Why would Chicagoans need to go to New York for anything except a bit of tourism.
I live here, and I don’t really see what Chicago lacks. That’s why I’m so obsessed with the place (Chicago) as all of you can plainly see. I pretty much get New York at half the price (with some much cooler stuff going up and a vibe of revitalization that’s irresistible to follow)
Ah, that Irish blarney!
