Quote of the day: The world at a standstill

“People are still coming in and writing checks. … The world has come to a standstill … but the Spire is in good position to weather this.”

-a spokeswoman for the Chicago Spire, speaking to Crain’s about the stalled tower’s future.

“Given the setbacks, observers might confuse the massive hole in the ground at the Spire’s development site with a grave,” writes Crain’s reporter Andrew Schroedter. Indeed, it would be any easy mistake to make. I prefer the analogy of the Spire hole to The Sarlacc in The Great Pit of Carkoon from Return of the Jedi, which has been mentioned by several commenters on the Skyscrapercity discussion forums.
