RDM Development, the company behind Trio and the 1400 Lake Shore Drive conversion, is planning a single-family home community in Marquette Park with the Senior Lifestyle Corporation. Marquette Village is not one of those exclusive “55 and better” communities (a fact made abundantly clear by the superfluity of vibrant young couples and children popping up all over the Web site), but the development will have a “Senior Lifestyle Senior Center,” with a television lounge, computer lab, fitness center and dining options, for those aged 62 and older. There are 139 two-story homes, available in six different floor plans, in all. Units have three bedrooms, 1,624 square feet, patios and landscaped back yards. Prices start in the $290s, the lowest price we’ve seen at any current new-construction single-family development in the city.

These aren’t bad. They seem appropriate for the area. I’m just relieved that what appeared to be garage doors at first glance of the rendering are in fact just white entry doors. Phew! Good for Marquette Park!
How about “The Mortarboard” as the new name for the 1800 Grace project? The story behind the famous grad-cap shape is that it is based on a builder’s tool – and the young scholars are “builders” of the future.
