When construction on Waterview Tower, 111 W Wacker, began in 2005 it was anticipated to top out at 92 stories and include a hotel and 243 luxury condo units.

The building has been stalled out at 25 stories for years, but may soon begin climbing upward to a 59-story tower containing 596 rental units.

You can see all of the details on the status of and proposals for the project in the current edition of Alderman Reilly Reports. You’ll find links to project documents and to a variety of renderings. My favorite is the twilight view from the northeast, above.

  • Pretty impressive looking building, will be a great addition to the riverfront.

I wonder if they’ll build it in such a way that it could be converted to condos 5-10 years down the road? Meaning somewhat larger units than the standard rental, ect.

It seems that the units in most of the newer rental buildings couldn’t be easily converted to higher quality condo units. At least not to the standard that one would expect from a apartment/condo that you buy, instead of rent.
