Now that Roosevelt Collection has joined the still-unbuilt (and probably canceled) Lakeview Collection in our rent-not-buy column, and now that the site of the proposed St Clair tower has changed hands, is The Fairbanks at Cityfront Plaza the only place in Chicago where Centrum Properties is marketing condos for sale?
That appears to be the case. Centrum is still listing a handful of units at this 31-story tower, located at 240 E Illinois St in Streeterville. Those homes include a few one-bedrooms with 874 to 1,011 square feet, priced from the $420s to $490s, and a few two-bedrooms with 1,494 to 1,529 square feet, priced from the $550s to $990s.
Those aren’t the only options available to people looking to live in The Fairbanks, however. Along with 18 resales — one-bedrooms priced from the $410s to $570s and two-bedrooms priced from the $540s to $940s — there 16 homes listed on the MLS as rentals. They include:
- One-bedroom / one-baths for $2,500 per month
- One-bedroom / 1.5-baths from $2,500 to $3,950 per month
- One-bedroom / two-baths for $2,595 per month
- Two-bedroom / two-baths from $3,150 to $3,600 per month
- Two-bedroom / 2.5-baths for $3,300 per month
The Fairbanks, which was completed in late 2007, features a 24-hour door staff, outdoor pool, sundeck, fitness center, and on-site laundry services. The building had been popular with second-home buyers in the lead-up to construction, so much so that Centrum had pushed the in-town residence angle for its now-canceled neighbor, The St Clair.
