Smith Village revamps senior housing in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood

Major new-construction projects are few and far between in settled Beverly, with a couple of notable exceptions. At Smith Village, New Life Management & Development and AG Architecture are building a 152-unit independent-living apartment complex for seniors, with deliveries planned this fall. An additional 88-unit assisted-living building, next door at 2315 W 112th Place, opened in spring 2006.

Residents pay an entrance fee and monthly rent that includes housekeeping, two meals per day, transportation and access to a skilled nursing facility. On-site amenities include a pub, a salon, a library and a fitness center. At the independent-living building, 86 percent of the apartments are reserved, says Marge Everett, marketing associate with Smith Village.

Smith Village is replacing the smaller Washington & Jane Smith Community, senior housing that occupied the site for more than 80 years, Everett says.

An information center for Smith Village is located at 10400 S Western Ave.
