Riding the rails: Few homes to find near the Loyola Red Line stop in Rogers Park

1044 W Loyola Ave, Chicago

Loyola‘s facilities take up a lot of area directly around the Red Line station at Sheridan Road and Loyola Avenue in Rogers Park, so it’s not surprising to see few homes for sale in the immediate vicinity. The three closest units are all two-bedrooms on Loyola Avenue, one just north of the university and near the lake, and two in the 1300 block, between Lakewood and Glenwood avenues.

The home near the lake — unit #2B at 1044 W Loyola Ave (above) — is supposed no more than 60 steps from Hartigan Beach, according to the listing from Susan Schechtman of Baird & Warner. The 2,850 square-foot two-bedroom / two-bath is part of a century-old eight-unit building and has most of its original oak flooring and door framing. Other features include full-size windows, a master bath with steam shower, a hall bath with whirlpool tub, a kitchen with a granite floor and countertops, and in-unit washer / dryer. It’s priced at $425,000, down from an original June 2010 list price of $449,000.

The homes west of the station are a 1,400 square-foot two-bedroom / two-bath (below left) in a four-year-old, 11-unit building at 1329 W Loyola Ave, priced in the $270s, and a two-bedroom / one-bath home (below right) inside a recently rehabbed seven-unit building at 1341 W Loyola Ave, listed in the $190s. The former features hardwood floors, granite kitchen countertops, a gas fireplace, and garage parking, and sold in 2007 for $360,000 and in 2008 for $300,000. The latter has hardwood floors, maple kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, and a second bedroom featuring French doors.
