Wow — I rent in one of the condo buildings (formerly) managed by Regent. Never thought much of them as managers, but didn’t expect this. I remember a notice from the water company on the door once, but that was a while ago. I wondered why we switched management companies on SHORT notice last week.
What do you think this will do to re-sales in the building? I’ve thought about buying one of the units, but this makes me a little nervous.
If the allegations against Regent prove to be true then we’ve learned a lot more about condo boards and their accountants and attorneys than we have about Jay Strauss and Regent Realty. Does anyone do any due diligence before hiring a management company? Or audit the books afterwards? Or even check the bank statements against the books?
This is not the first – and it won’t be the last – instance of a management company allegedly mismanaging or misappropriating large sums of association money.
