  • I’d be more interested if the Feds would investigage Daley’s campaign slush fund largesse through the TIF’s over the past decade.

  • I’m surprised that the feds are taking this long to look at this. It has been an open secret for years.

This reminds me of Casablanca…….”I am shocked to find political insiders squeezing people in Bridgeport”.

  • As a former Hyde Parker and Co-op Member, it breaks my heart to read of the recent turmoil, both finanical and “aesthetic,” that has plagued this noble institution over the past few years. In its glory days – as late as the 1990s – the Hyde Park Co-op was a first-class grocery, easily comparable to Treasure Island and other upscale North Side institutions. The produce was first-rate, and weighed on-the-spot by one of the friendliest clerks I’ve ever encountered. The pastry shop was an outpost of the now-defunce Let Them Eat Cake chain, and was at the time just about the ONLY place in Hyde Park where you could order a wedding or other special-occasion cake. The community-involvement was plentiful, ranging from carrying locally-produced products from small South Side vendors, to food drives, to the legendary Used Book Sale on Columbus Day weekend. And talk about “customer service!” Everything from an on-site post office and credit union, to public restrooms (still a rarity in many grocery stores), to managers who would glady special-order a product if it wasn’t already on the shelves.
Sorry to be waxing so nostalgic about the “good old days,” but for those who never experienced HPC and are only reading current negative accounts, I just had to tell the other side!
