Earlier posts in our series on the best apartment towers in River North spotlighted the buildings with the best views, the most convenient grocery shopping, the best access to public transit, parks and beaches , the expressway grid, the most nearby dining and nightlife, and the shortest walking distance to the Loop.
The densest concentration of shops in and near River North is along and just west of North Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile, sometimes waggishly referred to as the Magnificent Mall.
The northern stretch of the Magnificent Mile begins with the glamorous Oak Street boutiques.
Just south of Oak Street is the 900 North Michigan Shops, a seven-level, 450,000 square foot indoor mall featuring more than 70 luxury retailers anchored by Bloomingdale’s. A bit further south is Water Tower Place, home to 100 shops and eateries on 8 levels with Macy’s as an anchor, the shops at the Hancock Center, Topshop and Neiman Marcus – to name just a very few of the multitude of close-by shops.
The River North apartment tower with the best proximity to this scene is The Chicagoan, 750 N Rush St. The Bernardin, a short block west at 747 N Wabash Ave, comes in a close second.
