River West apartment towers take a step forward

The rezoning of the former Gonnella Baking site at 1001 W Chicago in River West is one of the items on the Chicago Plan Commission’s agenda at its October 16 meeting.

A Seattle-based developer is proposing to rezone the 1.88-acre site for two-mixed use 14- and 15-story buildings with a total of 363 apartments, 35,000 square feet of retail space and a minimum of 318 parking spaces.

If the proposal is approved by the Plan Commission it then goes to the City Council’s Zoning Committee and the full City Council.

The development is just east of a CVS and a short block from the CTA Blue Line stop at Milwaukee and Chicago.

The buildings are likely to have views similar to those from Mondial in the above photo. Mondial is a block east of the site.

You can see all of the new downtown apartment projects that are proposed or underway on YoChicago’s at-a-glance list.
