Robbins seeks turnaround with new single-family houses

Where in Chicagoland can you find a brand new four-bedroom single-family house for $179,000? South suburban Robbins is working through the Cook County Tax Reactivation project to buy delinquent properties and develop new homes on the sites, according to a story in today’s Chicago Tribune. The 10 houses Robbins has developed so far comprise a very small drop in a very big bucket, one troubled by crime and distressed property, but they’re a start. And prices ranging from the $170s to the $290s for new detached houses are drawing buyers despite Robbins’ problems. Three of the houses are occupied, and the other seven sold before ground was broken.
