Hard to believe that this Italianate South Side home (photo by a daring Val Zekas) was once the pride and joy of a member of Chicago’s elite. This home, on the 5700 block of South Lafayette Avenue, was built before the Great Fire for Chicago businessman and politician John Raber. Today it stands boarded up, the property of the Department of Planning. We’re not sure of Raber House‘s recent history, although it certainly has that crack house aura about it.
