Sales near halfway point at The Axis in Lincoln Park

The Axis

Weekend traffic through the retail corridor at North and Clybourn is no picnic – it often seems as if every North Sider with a car is trying to angle into the lots that surround Whole Foods, J. Crew, The Container Store, The Land of Nod and other upscale franchises.

To shop there without the traffic, your spending spree might have to include a new condo within walking distance: at, say, SoNo, planned for 860 W Blackhawk St, or The Axis, 1600 N Halsted St. This 20-unit conversion is in the thick of the shopping action; CB2 is on the ground floor.

We chatted Friday with Robin Miner, the @properties agent selling The Axis. The former apartment building, constructed in 1992, houses 20 condos with 750 square feet, one bedroom and one bath.

Schubert Properties, the developer, is selling the units as-is, in what Miner calls “1992 rental condition” (with carpeting, Formica countertops and white appliances) or upgraded (with hardwood floors, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances). Prices range from $238,000 to $275,000. she says. Eight units have sold.

Rental parking is available, with gated spots for $165 per month and un-gated spots for $75 per month.
