Construction of the 43-story, 450-unit apartment tower at 360 West Hubbard in Chicago’s River North neighborhood actually began two months ago. By the time of yesterday’s official groundbreaking ceremony all of the caisson-drilling and site prep work was complete, and the tower will soon begin rising out of the ground.
Groundbreaking ceremonies aren’t the most exciting events, but they occasionally provide glimpses into the personalities of the men and women who bring buildings into existence. And today’s event served up a rare treat — an opportunity to hear from Daniel Levin, the founder of The Habitat Company and the builder of more than 17,000 residences in his more than 40-year career.
Also speaking at the event were Pamela Silberman, Senior VP of Landon Butler, Paul Boneham, Executive VP of Bentall Kennedy USA, Mark Angelson, Chicago’s Deputy Mayor, John Zubricks, Business Manager of Sprinkler Fitters Local 281, and Habitat Company CEO Mark Segal.
