Scenes from Churchill Park’s DFA

A DFA, for those among you unfamiliar with the acronym, is a “dog friendly area.” Judging by the sign at the Churchill Park DFA in Bucktown, however, it’s not hyper-friendly.

It’s also, based on reviews at Yelp and a glance at the dogs perched on and under the bench at the right of the following photo, friendlier to some size dogs than to others.

The DFA was busy when I visited early Monday afternoon. A dog-walker who frequents the park told me that it’s “the cleanest dog park in the city.” What accounts for that, she said, is that dog-walkers clean up the major mess that local dog owners leave behind every weekend.

The park, of course, has a permanent watchdog.
