Scenes from Rogers Park's North Point Lofts

Caption

We spent some time over the weekend at North Point Lofts, a conversion at 7506 N Damen in Rogers Park (we know some folks who moved in a year ago). Units are still for sale, starting at $189,000. The project comprises 16 lofts with one bathroom and one or two bedrooms.

The one-bedroom unit we visited had some nifty features that made clever use of a small space. A fireplace is tucked into one side of the breakfast bar, and a diagonal shelf makes a perfect spot for a wide-screen TV, for example.

Outside the building, which is located just south of Howard, the streets were hopping late into the night. Most of the activity seemed harmless enough – girls jumping rope or people walking dogs. But there were a couple of screaming arguments, too, one of which prompted a young man to sprint down the street.

And a giant sinkhole hidden in the shadow of a parked car nearly caused our buddy to break a leg – thankfully, he escaped with only a few cuts on his hand. He said he’s made several calls to the city about it, but the police have told him it’s pretty low on their list of priorities. If you’re heading to a showing at North Point Lofts, tread carefully.
