Almost all of downtown Chicago’s rental high-rises have furnished apartments available for short-term stays, either directly from the building or from a third-party company.
If you’re relocating to Chicago, a furnished rental enables you to “test-drive” a building you’re considering moving into, or take some time finding your permanent home without the pressure of making a decision on a short home or apartment-hunting trip. Furnished rentals also work well for temporary business relocations, visitors on an extended vacation, out-patients at one of the city’s medical centers, the cast and crews of movies being shot in Chicago, people whose homes are undergoing rehab – and an almost endless variety of personal reasons.
Short-term furnished apartments typically require a 30-day or longer stay. Rents are very competitive with hotel stays, and the apartments offer far more than a hotel room can.
The buildings they’re in almost always have more extensive amenities than you’ll find in most hotels.
Suite Home Chicago is one of our new advertisers and I visited two of the company’s apartments at Aqua and two in the condo tower at Grand Plaza last Friday. The company offers studio to 3-bedroom apartments in two dozen city and suburban locations.
The apartments were nicely-furnished and set up with everything you’d need to live comfortably.
Kitchens, for example, were stocked with dishes, glassware, flatware, knives, toasters, blenders, coffee makers, cooking utensils, dish towels, paper towels, and more.
There were flat-screen TVs in the living rooms and bedrooms, cable and Internet service, desks, bath towels and mats, ironing boards, brooms, etc. All of the apartments had hardwood floors in living areas and in-unit washers and dryers.
All of the apartments also had an amenity you’ll rarely find in a hotel room: a large private balcony or terrace.
A duplex 2-bedroom, 2-bath penthouse at Grand Plaza had a loft office overlooking a dramatic two-story living room with a fireplace, and a wraparound terrace.
