Sleek and chic remodeling on Elston

DSCN0339.JPG

You’ve gotta appreciate bold design, particularly in bleak locations, so it’s a pleasure to point out the almost-finished remodeling [really more of an engulfment] of a prosaic storefront/office building at the southeast corner of Cortland and Elston.

Apparently inspired as much by Art Moderne luxury liners as by any actual building type, it’s a great addition to what could easily vie for the Grimmest Corner in Chicago. According to the architect’s website, a construction showroom and custom cabinetry workshop will occupy the the ground floor, which features a dramatic suspended staircase.
