SoNo: "Steps to the lake"

Yeah, it’s another post about an @properties ad in the RedEye. (I swear, unlike a lot of the big brokerages out there, they aren’t our clients.)

The latest full-pager for SoNo, 860 W Blackhawk St, declares the commercial center around North and Clybourn avenues “the hottest new neighborhood,” and maps out 23 restaurants, gyms, and big box stores to prove it. The ad also promotes SoNo’s proximity to Old Town with an arrow pointing “this way,” and says the tower is just “steps to the lake!”

Look, SoNo to the lake perfectly reasonable distance on a good day, assuming you have 30 minutes to kill, and if you’re capable of walking, just about anything is “steps” away. Let’s count those steps, just for the heck of it:

If you’re using city sidewalks, SoNo is 1.5 miles, or 7,920 feet, from the closest part of lake. (Interestingly enough, it’s the exact same distance from SoNo to the Yo office near Erie and Sedgwick.)

Adult strides tend to be 2 to 3 feet in length, depending on how long your legs are and how well you stretched those hammies. Let’s split the difference and say 2.5 feet.

So yes, SoNo is steps to the lake — 3,168, to be exact.
