Lake View’s long-awaited Space Park is now topped with 150 cubic yards of soil and is shaping up for a summer 2008 opening, according to a presentation at Wednesday’s Triangle Neighbors Association meeting.
Since parks tend to add value to homes, we walked along West Roscoe Street to see what new homes might benefit from the park, 815 – 817 W Roscoe St.
We didn’t see much new construction along the 800 block of West Roscoe Street, but this dingy home at 824 W Roscoe St looked like it was about to be torn down.
In between 903 and 909 W Roscoe St, we noticed this construction site (perhaps for a new single-family home), but we didn’t see any signs advertising the development.
Some studies have shown that a park can add a minimum of $10,000 to properties around the area, says Jim Ludwig, president of Triangle Neighbors. The group raised $1.28 million over three years to buy two lots for the park, which measures 50-by-125-feet.
“It builds community and gives the community more of an identity,” Ludwig says.
