The typical Realtor is a 51-year-old married white female who has attended college, owns her home and has a household income of more than $100,000, according to a recent study by the National Association of Realtors. Only one in 10 Realtors is under the age of 35.
Less than half of all Realtors (48 percent) reported that real estate is their primary source of income.

I saw this study and read some of the results as well on Peter Olson’s attorney blog. I guess I’m not the norm in age, income, years in the business etc… way not the norm. I’d have to stay in the game a long time and pay a ton of money on sex change and therapy.
Looking at the study, I’m not sure it lines up with what I see on a daily basis of showing and selling property in Chicago. I guess cities would break the mold a bit, while suburbs would fall into the “norm” category.
I’d like to see a Chicago study.
I partially agree with the above. From my rather scanty experience with suburban Realtors, it seems that the “typical” agent is basically a housewife who gets her license in order to provide “extra” family income. She leans on her friends at the PTA, beauty shop, etc. to provide her with listings, places Supra locks on the houses, and charges less-than-usual for commission because with the Supra she doesn’t have to dirty her hands with things like…oh, say…making showing appointments. (Boy, do some of these gals get ticked off when I tell them I don’t have a Supra key!) The closing is usually attended by some “assistant” who picks up the check for her. No kidding…it is possible to do a suburban deal without ever meeting the seller’s agent!
Anon…possible? We never see the suburban agent. Never.
