When the Chicago city council voted last February to ban street musicians from Michigan Avenue between Delaware and Superior – a busy stretch of the mag mile – accordion player and licensed street musician Michael Jette voiced his objection to ABC7 Chicago news. He was just trying to make a living, he said. On a recent trek through the Loop I came across Jette (pictured above) playing at the corner of Wells and Jackson. He was clearly a pro – not only was he out in 20 degree weather, he had a business card at the ready. And his tuneful oompahs, heard inside the nearby CVS, lent the feeling that a circus was traveling by.
