Sunday open house – a Seyfarth home in Glencoe

Some homes make a strong impression on you while leaving you fumbling for le mot juste to describe them. Coldwell Banker’s Maureen Mohling summed up the home as “not fragile, not pretentious” while the best I could do was “not precious.” Don’t be misled by our phrasing – a visit to the home is a very pleasant, positive experience – “a treat” in Mohling’s words.

Prolific North Shore architect Robert E. Seyfarth designed the Abel Davis home, 600 Sheridan Road in Glencoe, in the mid-1920s, at a time when his architecture showed little of the Prairie influence of George W. Maher, his early mentor.

The home’s simple exterior masks its complex interior geometry and rich detailing. It recently underwent a complete renovation and is currently offered for sale by Maureen Mohling and Julie Deutsch of Coldwell Banker at $3,875,000, after a price reduction. The home is a few short blocks from the beach at Lakefront Park, the Metra station, and downtown Glencoe.

Due to the home’s scale, our video tour is in four segments. Part one is above; parts two, three and four are at YouTube. Don’t miss some of the fun rooms – the lavish master suite, the indoor basketball court, the golf room, and the laundry room.
