The Chicago Spire: the models

The Chicago Spire‘s sales center, which opened for media earlier this week, features two models: a two-bedroom and a “Gallery” unit, essentially a studio apartment with a bed enclosed in a circular glass pod.

The Gallery sleeping area, as the Tribune‘s Blair Kamin has pointed out, is worthy of Austin Powers. I also thought of the sci-fi movie Gattaca.

The kitchen in the Gallery unit fits snugly along one wall.

The two-bedroom model has a curving interior wall, showing how some units will integrate the Spire’s cylindrical core.

The Spire sales team stresses that no two condos are exactly alike. But some common features include 10-foot ceiling heights, hardwood floors in a herringbone pattern and slanting, trapezoidal windows.
