Head just a mile west of the lake and, if you’re able to find a vantage point a few hundred feet above the ground, you’ll be in big sky country and be treated to sweeping views of the city and skyline. You’ll also see that what a recent Crain’s Chicago Business article called a developer stampede into River North will not encounter a shortage of vacant lots.
These shots were taken late yesterday morning from the roof of The Montgomery, 500 W Superior St, in River North. The 28-story former corporate headquarters of Montgomery Ward was designed by Minoru Yamasaki, completed in 1972, and converted to condos in 2004. The structure’s most distinctive feature is the concrete shear wall cores, clad in travertine, that brace its four corners.
