According to the US Census Bureau Chicago’s population is 51.5% female. That’s higher than the statewide average of 51% despite Chicago’s elderly population (10.3%) being markedly below Illinois’ (12.5%).
When you zoom in to the Census Tract level you can find many areas where the female population tops 55%. Zoom in further to some of Chicago’s high-rise apartment buildings and the gender imbalance can approach a 2:1 female-to-male ratio in buildings where the demographics skew young and affluent.
We’ll skip the expected blather about the gender imbalance in colleges and living-at-home Millennials so that you can get out there and find where the girls are.
