The final segment of Joe’s tour of Lake Park Gateway II with developer Mitch Newman find the duo standing near what Joe calls a “genuine shopping center” on 47th Street. The retail options near Newman’s new homes, located at 1227 – 1249 E 46th St, represent only a fraction of the neighborhood amenities available to North Kenwood residents, Mitch says. Other perks include easy access to the rest of the city via Lake Shore Drive and the Metra rails, and the neighborhood’s proximity to Burnham Park and Lake Michigan.

  • Yeah, great shopping options–a strip mall with a Walgreens.

I think I have those here in Racine, WI. Why not save a few hundred thousand and just buy a condo here.

We need to get more creative than to call a bunch of soulless strip malls with the bare essentials “genuine shopping options”. Lets hope that Chicago gets the Olympics and that a boom in real estate will bring real shopping options (and please no more strip malls) to the neighborhood.

  • TUP,

Have you been to this location? There’s more right there than I showed in the video.

You really should consider knowing what you’re talking about before opining so confidently.

Also hate to tell you this – but this location is more suitable to a strip mall than to the pedestrian retail you favor. Get on the ground out there and check it out. Talk to some of the locals and ask them what they overwhelmingly prefer.

Oh, wait – I keep forgetting that people’s wants don’t have much place in your vision of the city.
