From a clever news release e-mailed late yesterday about the planned new condo tower, The Legacy at Millennium Park: “Hundreds flocked to the VIP opening weekend for the Cultural Mile’s newest condo tower, The Legacy at Millennium Park, just west of Michigan Avenue at Monroe Street…” You won’t find the word “Wabash” in the release, though the bulk of the narrow high-rise will front that street.
No mystery why Mesa Development wants its building associated with glittering Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park instead of dark, dingy Wabash. To be fair, the slender 72-story tower will have views of Millennium Park and the lake and will sit just yards from Michigan Avenue. And Wabash Ave is undergoing a $20 million rehab that will include new streetscaping, planters and a paint job for the el. But we wouldn’t be surprised if putting “Millennium Park” in the development name and avoiding “Wabash” references had some VIPs POed when they realized where the new tower would sit.
