The new South Loop dog park sucks

DogPark.jpgThere, I said it. Seriously, you call that a dog park? It’s a sectioned-off area of Grant Park that’s slightly larger than an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and it’s composed of asphalt and pebbles, with nary a shred of grass in sight.

At the gate is a sign warning dog owners that Rover’s paws may become sore after his first few romps in the “park,” but eventually he’ll get used to it. The photo here was taken by the good folk at South Loop Dogs. The organization lobbied long and hard for this facility and is very happy to have it; I’m merely giving my take on it.

The dogs I saw playing there yesterday seemed to be having fun, and it’s nice that South Loopers have a place to meet each other, but is it really asking too much to give them a bigger space and a little of the green stuff?
