Rendering roundup: The poor man's Parkhomes

We don’t see a lot of hand-drawn renderings these days, so the arrival of a new one should be an occasion for celebration. (What? We always find excuses to party here at Yo Central.)

Unfortunately, the new watercolor painting of the Parkhomes at Lakeshore East (left) is a bit of a bummer. It strikes me as a drab, ill-proportioned, perspectively inaccurate imitation of the project’s old watercolor representation (right), which we’ve been using on YoChicago for almost a year. No new angles, no extra detail, no dogs, strollers or compact cars. It’s almost enough to make me long for a cold, computer-generated rendering like the one below.

(And before you say anything, no, I can’t do better. My parents still have an old watercolor of a mallard that dates back to my preteen days. They keep it above the master bathroom toilet, but I wish they’d just let it go.)

It’s a good thing Magellan Development Group doesn’t need a new Wyeth, Hopper or Homer to help sell these homes. As Leila Zammatta told Mark in late May, these types of homes are hard to come by in the New East Side or any other downtown neighborhood, and I would imagine that there are a few buyers out there who would plunk down $1.6 million to $2.5 million for a townhouse or a mid-rise duplex this close to the lake and never think twice about Magellan’s promotional materials.

Leila said in May that 15 of the 25 Parkhomes were still for sale, and buyers do have the option of combining units.
